Today's focus

Nov 25

The big one is the opening of the doors of our physical world Neurology practices in San Jose and New York. I'm grateful to my co-founder as well as the folks who have helped this happen. It'll be a fantastic platform for future healthcare and health-tech innovation. I'm super excited for my future.

Persona

My current business is not venture-backed -- that choice was made explicitly to give us more time to focus on our people and how we work together daily. Outside, I try to make it to events and learn and share with others.

Role models

Different folks in different time periods, Tony Hsieh got me into starting businesses, early days SEO Moz had a big impact locally, Founder's Coop pushed me to get out of thinking bootstrapping was the only way to do anything.

Why Seattle?

Great mix of interesting people, nature, family oriented stuff.

Areas of expertise

Operationalizing startups and startup ideas. I also have a very specific depth in health-tech but do enjoy helping in other domains as well.

Collaborative values

I generally look for folks with totally different experiences from my own these days -- domain experts, folks who have made investments in themselves in a way I haven't (e.g. my current co-founder is a neuro interventional radiologist).

Decision drivers

Focus on the part of the idea most likely to fail first. In terms of the business itself, as a leader, I always am looking for a way to displace my own role and hire folks who can do a better job at my current responsibilities.

Legacy

I guess me being remembered isn't as important to me as the impact I'm able to have. After selling my first business, I choose to move into healthcare to try to impact a field with pretty poor tech available to it. I hope I'm able to positively improve physicians experience with technology and in doing so their ability to have a great impact on the individuals they care for.
